Best Halloween recipes
1. Mummy hot dogs
The inspiration for mummy hot dogs comes from classic Halloween motifs, particularly the iconic imagery of mummies that dates way back to ancient Egyptian culture.
Mummies embody the eerie and mysterious elements of the holiday. With their wrapped dough resembling mummy bandages and playful touches like mustard or ketchup eyes, these treats bring a delightful spookiness to any Halloween gathering. They’re the perfect Halloween dinner for your little goblins.
Total time needed: 30 minutes (10 minutes for prep and 20 minutes for baking)
Ingredients: Hot dogs, crescent roll dough, mustard or ketchup, some eatable eyes (optional: cheese slices for extra flavour)
How-to: Unroll the dough and separate it at perforations. Then press the perforations to seal. Slice the pieces into thin strips. Wrap four pieces of dough around each hot dog and add the optional eyes.
2. Spider pizza
This will probably be the creepiest pizza you’ll ever have… Spiders are a well-loved spooky symbol this time of year, often hanging from the ceiling of haunted houses.
Why not pop them on a “pizza” and give your guests a little scare?
Total time needed: 20-30 minutes (15 minutes for prep and 5-15 minutes for baking)
Ingredients: Pre-made pizza bases, pizza sauce, shredded mozzarella, black olives (for the super scary spiders)
How-to: Cut the olives in half lengthways for the spiders’ bodies. Then cut another olive into thin slices for the spider’s legs. You can typically get four legs from one olive. You can either add the spiders before or after you bake the pizza.
3. Witches broomsticks
Ever wish you could just jump on a broomstick and zip off? We can’t promise a Halloween getaway, but we can recommend some wonderfully witchy treats.
Total time needed: 20 minutes all up
Ingredients: Pretzel sticks, cheese slices, chives
How-to: Cut each cheese slice into three strips. Make tiny slits in the cheese leaving a 1/2 border at the top. After that wrap the cheese around the bottom of the pretzel sticks and use chives to secure the cheese.
4. Spider-themed cracker sandwiches
The adorable spider crackers are perfect to bring some giggly ghoulishness to your Halloween party and weave a web of fun and flavour. They take their cue from the world of creepy-crawly creatures. By transforming a simple snack into these delightful critters, you can add a fun twist that kids will adore.
One of our favourite Halloween treats!
Total time needed: 15 minutes (5 minutes for prep and 10 minutes for assembly)
Ingredients: Round crackers (for the spider body), cream cheese or peanut butter, pretzel sticks (for the spider legs), mini candy or raisins (for spider eyes)
How-to: Spread a thin layer of cream cheese on each cracker. Break the pretzel sticks in half, take one cracker and add 4 sticks on top of the cream cheese to each side. Put another cracker on top to create a sandwich and top it with mini candy for the spider’s eyes.
5. Banana ghosts
Say hello to the perfectly spooky yet irresistibly cute and sweet banana ghosts, a spooktacular snack for the little ones and a highlight at Halloween parties.
With their little funny faces made of chocolate chips and creamy peanut butter dip that’s to die for, they add a delightful dash of Halloween cheer to parties. They’re also (somewhat) nutritious!
Total time needed: 15 minutes (5 minutes for prep and 10 minutes for assembly)
Ingredients: Ripe bananas, ice pop sticks, white and normal chocolate chips (or blueberries) and either add a self-made or bought peanut butter cream
How-to: Peel the bananas, cut them in half crosswise, then lengthwise. Insert a stick in the short, flat side of each and freeze for two hours. Melt the white chocolate chips and dip the frozen bananas in the melted chocolate. After that use the remaining chocolate chips or the blueberries for the eyes.
6. Halloween crispy rice treats
Try giving your classic marshmallow rice cereal treats from generations ago some Halloween flair!
Think pumpkin shapes, ghostly faces, or spooky sprinkles – these will elevate the nostalgic goodie you know and love.
Total time needed: 30 minutes (10 minutes for prep and 20 minutes for cooling and cutting)
Ingredients: Pre-made crispy rice treats, candy melts, sprinkled, candy eyeballs
How-to: Line a large sheet pan with parchment paper and set aside. Add the candy melt to the microwave and dip the crispy rice treats in the chocolate. Use a spoon to help cover the treat. Press on the eyeballs or sprinkles for the extra scary effect.
7. Easy Halloween cookies
It’s time for some boo-tiful cookies (pardon the Halloween joke). Cookie-making has long been a way for families to come together, share creativity, and celebrate special occasions. And it’s even more fun to bake ghostly eye-catching cookies. They can make a canvas for creativity with spooky shapes, colourful icing, and fun decorations – whether they’re shaped like ghosts, pumpkins, or spiders.
Total time needed: Around 50 minutes all up
Ingredients: Use your favourite cookie and icing recipe and add the spooky touch with some frightening shapes and decorations. The perfect sweet treat for in-between.
8. Apple monster mouths
Apple Monster Mouths are a fun twist on Halloween snacking, taking cues from the playful, goofy monsters. With their silly, toothy grins and vibrant colours, they bring a playful yet spooky vibe to Halloween celebrations.
Total time needed: 15 minutes (5 minutes for prep and 10 minutes for assembly)
Ingredients: Apple slices (for the mouths), peanut butter or cream cheese (to hold the teeth), mini marshmallow or seeds (for the teeth), strawberries (for the tongue)
How-to: Cut the apples into quarters and then into thinner slices. Spread a thin layer of peanut butter on one side of each slice. Take two apple slices and place them together. Stick the mini marshmallows or seeds into the peanut butter along the edge of the mouth. You can also add a slice of a strawberry as a tongue.
9. Pretzel witch fingers
Halloween is nothing without witches, spells, curses and, of course, the crooked finger. That’s why we love this easy-to-make Halloween snack. This spooky snack playfully brings the witch’s eerie hands to life in a fun, crunchy, and slightly creepy treat. Don’t we all love easy but amazing recipes like this?
Total time needed: 20 minutes (10 minutes for prep and a few minutes for decorating and drying)
Ingredients: Pretzel rods, almond slices, green candy melts or white chocolate with food colouring.
How-to: Microwave the candy melt or the white chocolate and add the food colouring. Dip a pretzel rod into the candy melt or chocolate, leaving an inch at the bottom. Place dipped pretzels on a prepared baking sheet and add the almond slice at the top for the nail.
10. Halloween gingerbread
How could anyone resist these adorable Halloween gingerbread men? They’re perfect for the spookiest night of the year.
With store-bought dough and some sweet icing, the gingerbread men are the perfect recipe for little trick-or-treaters and taste just amazing.
Total time needed: 30-40 minutes (10-15 minutes for prep, 8-12 minutes baking and 20 minutes cool down and decorating)
Ingredients: Pre-made gingerbread dough, flour (for rolling out the dough), icing (optional), sprinkles (optional)
How-to: Lightly flour your work surface and rolling pin. Unwrap the gingerbread dough and place it on the floured surface. Roll the dough and use a cookie cutter to cut out the shapes from to rolled dough. Place the gingerbread men on the prepared baking sheet and bake them for 8-12 minutes. Once cooled, decorate your gingerbread men with icing and sprinkles.
11. Halloween cupcakes
These easy Halloween cupcakes are perfect for when you want a spooky snack without spending hours in the kitchen. Using a simple store-bought cake mix and creative decorations, you can whip up these festive cupcakes in no time.
Total time needed: 40-50 minutes (10 minutes for prep, 20 minutes of baking time and 15-10 minutes for cooling and decorating)
Ingredients: cake mix, store-bought frosting (vanilla or chocolate), food colouring, Halloween-themed sprinkles (gummy worms, mini pumpkins)
