How to take the stress out of finding the best quality childcare

When choosing what child care is right for you little one, it is important to consider more than just cost; quality and comfort is equally important to your child’s well-being. If you want to make sure that your child gets the best care, here are some of our tips for how to find the best quality child care.

There are plenty of places you can go to find information about the best childcare options available to you. Start by looking for centres in your local area, but don’t hesitate to look in any area that fits your schedule or budget—you may not have to settle for what’s closest.

A good first step is to talk with friends who work in education and see if they know any great places nearby. If you want to get more personal, try calling up some parents you know who send their kids there, and ask them how their children are doing at the school/childcare facility.

Find out about their approach

When you’re interviewing people for a job, it’s customary to ask them about their specific approach – and the same goes for finding a child care arrangement. Any good child carer should have a well-defined idea of how things run on a day to day basis, and should be able to answer any of your questions. Asking someone about their child care practices and what strategies they typically implement can help shed light on whether or not they will be a good fit for your family.

Set up some interviews

Before you make your choice about daycare, make sure to interview a few different options and providers. Ask about their educational philosophy, how many children they typically serve, and how they go about choosing new employees. One of the best things you can do to prepare your child for school is to introduce them to learning games and activities early on. If a provider tries to talk you out of playing with your child or doesn’t mention educational activities, look elsewhere.

Take a visit to observe the environment

The presence of crayons and art supplies on a centre’s front table is usually a good sign that teachers foster creativity in their classrooms. As you walk around the daycare centre, take notes to gauge whether or not a centre provides quality care and various activities for children. Also be sure to observe the surroundings of the environment – does it seem clean? Do the children look happy? And are there any kids roaming around unattended by an adult? If they don’t check all the boxes – it might not the place for your child.

Try to talk it through with other parents

When looking for the best daycare for your family, start by chatting with other parents who might be able to recommend reputable childcare. It can help to give you peace of mind, knowing someone who has had a good experience with a childcare centre or carer. As all children are different and have different needs, it can be great to get multiple perspectives to help you make the right decision for your family.

Look at their professional credentials

When looking for a care provider, look at their professional credentials. They should have one or more certifications from organisations like the National Quality Standard and ACECQA. Knowing that they have been vetted by a reputable organisation, can give you peace of mind that they are providing experience and quality care.
