The days are long, but the years are short. This is a saying that all mamas can relate to, especially when looking back on their little one’s first year. Remembering all the messes, long nights, and showerless days might be easy, but the sweet moments and memories can be forgotten amongst the chaos if not documented. There are so many fun and easy ways to record this big year so here are a few ideas.

A photo every month

We’re sure you’ve already overloaded your camera roll with all of your baby’s smiles and outfits. If you haven’t thought about it yet, taking a photo of them in the same position on the first day of every month will be a great keepsake. It’ll show you exactly how much they have grown and the growth of their little personalities! They’ll never have to wonder what they looked like as they grew up and you won’t forget.

Baby book

Another obvious one but a keeper. These are foolproof journals that help you fill out all of the important milestones. Even though it might not be as creative as you may want, a busy mum, or mum that isn’t naturally creative can use a book that is easily laid out for them.

Foot and handprints

Tiny little feet and hands are some of the cutest things in the world. Holding them in your hands just isn’t enough! You’ll have to either dip them in paint and press them on some paper or better yet, make moulds of them. Having these mini mementos will fill you with joy when you’re looking back in a few years.

Year of firsts

Numerous milestones fill the first year and you want to record them all. If you want to be able to recall when they took their first bath, food, and smile, make a chart and log the dates.

Write them letters

Keeping a journal where you can write them letters every month (if you have the time) can be a very endearing recollection. Time passes so quickly and your memory fades. It will be difficult to recall all of your thoughts, expectations, worries, and moments of pure delight. So, scribble them down and hold them tight, you’ll be reading them for years to come.

Take lots of videos

Some of the best moments are captured on video. From their infectious giggle to their never-ending curiosity with everything on the ground, these times will be very entertaining to rewatch. Not only will you love them, but they will get a kick out of seeing what little menaces they used to be!

Finding the time to jot down all of the ways your baby surprises you, makes you laugh and fills your heart with joy might not always be at the top of your list. However, the year will pass before you know it and you’ll be looking back wanting to relive those first moments. Find your favourite way of commemorating and enjoy the constant entertainment!
