Shopping for baby: Choosing quality over quantity

As soon as you find out you areĀ pregnant, you automatically start searching for baby products online, Instagram or even make a visit to the baby store. Then once you announce you are pregnant to the world, you will no doubt be inundated with words of wisdom (welcomed or not) and recommendations on what you MUST buy or use based on others personal experience.

If there is one thing you must remember whenĀ planning for a baby, itā€™s to not be sucked into the one-off items ā€“ think about: quality over quantity!

You want to make sure that the items you choose are going to last the distance. There are plenty of products out there that promise this and promise that.

I remember when my kids were born you had to have the Bumbo, the Baby Bjorn and a certain type of swaddle. Try not to get caught up in all that and take the time to think about and consider what you really need ā€“ otherwise, your life will soon be overrun by mountains of baby paraphernalia you used a handful of times if that.

Any time I share tips on decluttering, I try to take the same approach when buying. Think:

  • Will I use it?
  • Do I need it?
  • Is it something you love?

All you are going to want to do in those early weeks and months is to spend time with your precious new baby and enjoy the moment. If you are organised and decluttered, you are going to be able to do just this. It will give you some time back too.

Things like decluttering and organising your pantry, car, nappy bag ā€“ the whole house! This will ensure the whole area around you is calm and youā€™re going to end up having more time with this precious baby.
