Stan’s July lineup is bound to keep you hooked all winter

Stan’s July lineup was just unveiled, and we know it’ll excite casual movie watchers and dedicated film fans alike. For the fans, we’ll start with one of our favourites – RuPaul’s Drag Race.

If you haven’t heard of it, it’s time to come out from under that rock! The most iconic competition series features legendary drag queen RuPaul as the host, along with talented drag performers gathered from all over to show off their skills in cutthroat – but glamorous – competition.

Stan is releasing more RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars episodes every Saturday, and you can also catch the premiere of spinoffs like Drag Race France season 2 and Drag Race Mexico season 1 this July. Die-hard fans, get ready to binge! As for newcomers, prepare for a wild ride that’ll have you hooked from the first episode.

Competition show fanatics are definitely getting their fill this winter, as Seasons 1 and 2 of Scream Queens (2008) will be airing on July 6th. In this unique competition, ten unknown actresses compete for a role in the upcoming (now released) Lionsgate horror film, Saw VI. Actress Shawnee Smith, who played Amanda Young in seven Saw movies, plays the role of judge along with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn.

To continue with the thriller theme, Stan is also releasing 2005 psychological thriller Hard Candy, starring Juno actor Elliot Page and The Conjuring actor Patrick Wilson. This heart-pounding film depicts a 14-year-old, Hayley Stark, who kidnaps suspected sexual predator and murderer Jeff Kolhver, and the mind games that ensue between the two of them as they each try to gain the upper hand.

It’s always a pleasure to watch talented actors like Page working their magic, and it’s especially impressive to watch him work alongside horror king Patrick Wilson. If you’re into horror, thriller, or just really good acting, we know you’ll love this addition to Stan.

The couchside adrenaline rush continues with Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015), for which we feel no introduction is necessary. But if you’re not into Mission: Impossible already, we’re happy to help you out! In Rogue Nation, the fifth installment of beloved Mission: Impossible franchise, American spy Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) fights The Syndicate, a group of international black ops terrorists. See why Rogue Nation has a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and features what’s been called the “biggest movie stunt in recent history.” This classic action film will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time!

After Rogue Nation, keep the spy vibes going with Mr. & Mrs. Smith, our favourite romantic action movie. You and your partner will both love this pick – it’s really got something for everyone! And, if it could get even better, the two stars are played by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. In it, Mr. and Mrs. Smith are stuck in a marriage that’s fizzling out… until they suddenly find out that they’re both highly trained assassins from opposing agencies, and are assigned to kill each other. Get ready for a fantastic film filled to the brim with all kinds of tension!

If action, thriller, romance, or competition flicks don’t float your boat, there’s still plenty for you! Stan changes gears with classic feel-good film The Pursuit of Happynesscoming to your screen on July 29th. Based on a true story, Will Smith plays struggling father Chris Gardner in this emotional roller coaster, along with 8-year-old Jaden Smith, who plays Gardner’s 5-year-old Chris. If you’re the type that loves to go through the entire spectrum of human emotion while watching a film, this one is right up your alley.

Finally, another fascinating true story comes in the form of House of Gucci, which stars a myriad of megastars like Lady Gaga, Jared Leto, and Adam Driver. Catch the tumultuous story of the Gucci family legacy,  and all the scandals and extravagance that come with it, on July 16th.

Of course, there’s plenty more coming to Stan this July than we can mention, so here’s the full calendar of upcoming releases this month!
