A three-day weekend with a house full of restless kids and a rainy weather forecast - not ideal. Thankfully, there’s still a whole week of Vivid Sydney 2024 left to keep them busy and dazzled with fun.
Winter is unfortunately punctual, so the onslaught of rain has brought on some unexpected cancellations to Vivid in the past week. While some much-loved events have had to pause, there are plenty of other rain-proof highlights left to enjoy.
This is your updated Vivid 2024 long weekend lineup.
What’s on this long weekend?
Earlier this week, the Matildas (who sky-rocketed in popularity following last year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup) announced their Olympic squad and won a gripping match against China. Now, the team’s coach Tony Gustavsson and goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold are stopping by Sydney Town Hall to chat women’s football with sport journalist Grace Gill. If you’ve got a slightly older kid that loves sports (and can sit still for a while), they’ll love this. It’s a ticketed event, so make sure to score yours.
The Vivid Drone Show is lighting up the night sky on June 8, 9, and 15 – so you’ve got two nights to catch this weekend. 700 drones have been choreographed to form universal symbols of love in stunning colours and shapes, alongside a beautiful soundtrack.
It will also be live-streamed on the Vivid Sydney Facebook Page on 8 June, for those that feel like a warm and cosy night in.
Tumbalong nights is Vivid’s mini music festival which happens across 12 nights. This long weekend, there are some great kid-friendly tunes your little ones can groove to.
From 5pm this Saturday, family-friendly electro-funk group Formidable Vegetable is bringing some wholesome music joy. According to Vivid, “With songs about growing your own veggies, restoring ecosystems, and sustainable gift-giving, it’s all about fun with a side of learning.”
And at 5pm on Monday, the Beanies (who you might recognise from ABC Kids) are performing. This group is all about silliness and being unapologetically yourself, while grooving to a catchy tune.
