The reason babies and toddlers get sick so often is that \u2013 unlike us as their parents \u2013 every little germ and virus is a brand-new encounter for their bodies. They do start with somewhat of a baseline, as some antibodies are actually passed from the mother to her baby\u00a0through the placenta during the third trimester<\/a>. But as our bodies develop defences against viruses through illness it, unfortunately, does take getting sick or getting vaccinated to build up immunity.<\/p>\n
