Everyone experiences complicated feelings, big feelings, good feelings, and bad feelings every day. What’s most important is to find a way to identify, process, and talk through them so we create healthy habits. You can start teaching these habits really early, even to babies!

We recommend beginning with Todd Parr’s The Feelings Book, which goes over those feelings we all have sometimes, even the unexplainable ones. Some examples are “sometimes I feel like dressing up,” “sometimes I feel like yelling really loud,” “sometimes I feel like doing nothing.” It teaches that all of these are completely normal and okay to have! At the end of the book, we’re left with the message: “No matter how you feel, don’t keep your feelings to yourself. Share them with someone you love.” It’s a super important message to send your little one.
